Medical Assistant Pediatrics, Contingent Detroit
Overview
You will own patient flow and clinical support in a fast-paced pediatric practice, directly assisting providers with exams, procedures, and treatments. Working under provider and nursing leadership, you will manage vital signs, medication administration, and EHR documentation using EPIC to ensure accurate, compassionate care. You will join a collaborative team of pediatric specialists at Henry Ford Health, one of Michigan's largest academic medical centers, serving 13 hospitals and hundreds of ambulatory sites. This contingent role offers flexibility and exposure to a high-volume pediatric environment, where your clinical skills will directly impact patient outcomes.
What You'll Do10
- 1Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring comfort and safety.
- 2Obtain vital signs and record them in the EHR, using critical thinking to identify and report abnormal readings.
- 3Obtain and document patient medical histories, employing critical thinking to capture relevant details for provider review.
- 4Prepare and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments per protocols, including setting up sterile fields and handing instruments.
- 5Administer oral and parenteral medications and immunizations as ordered, strictly following the six rights of medication administration and documenting in the EHR.
- 6Maintain accurate immunization and medication administration records, updating patient charts in EPIC.
- 7Document all care provided during patient visits in the EHR, ensuring complete and timely entry.
- 8Respond to patient requests via phone, In Basket, and MyChart, documenting responses and escalating urgent issues per protocol.
- 9Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the EHR for provider sign-off, verifying accuracy and completeness.
- 10Discharge patients with after-visit instructions, providing education to patients and caregivers as directed by the provider.
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation.
- 3Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a formal clinical externship (160-hour minimum), OR
- 4Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without externship but with at least 1 year of clinical medical assisting experience within the past 5 years, OR
- 5Current professionally recognized Medical Assistant Certification with at least 1 year of clinical experience, OR
- 6Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, OR
- 7Licensed Paramedic/EMT with at least 1 year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the past 5 years, OR
- 8Military-trained medical personnel with at least 1 year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the past 5 years.
- 9Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills, with EPIC experience preferred.
- 10Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care, with strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
