Overview
As a Medical Assistant at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, you will own patient care workflows in a fast-paced family medicine practice, supporting a team of providers and managing 40-hour weeks. You will perform rooming tasks, administer medications, and handle lab procedures including venipuncture and POCT. You will work with EPIC (if applicable) and adhere to CLIA standards. What You'll Do9
- 1Room patients by measuring vital signs, reconciling medications, and updating medical histories and health maintenance records.
- 2Administer medications and vaccines following the rights of medication administration, ensuring patient safety.
- 3Perform venipuncture and specimen collection, labeling, packing, and preparation of lab orders per provider instructions.
- 4Execute CLIA-approved waived tests and diagnostic testing, documenting results accurately.
- 5Assist providers with procedures and exams, preparing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
- 6Manage patient messaging, medication refills, insurance authorizations, and appointment scheduling using electronic systems.
- 7Track lab results, follow up with patients, and escalate abnormal findings to providers promptly.
- 8Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure equipment is cleaned and sterilized per protocol.
- 9Support new teammate onboarding and training, serving as a role champion or committee member.
Requirements10
- 1High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training (DD214) in lieu.
- 32 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a practice setting.
- 4Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- 5Certification as CMA or RMA from recognized bodies like AAMA, AMT, or NCCT.
- 6Proficiency in computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS, and electronic mail, with exposure to EMR systems.
- 7Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope after competency assessment.
- 8Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and team members.
- 9Must be able to lift 35 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, and reaching.
- 10Willingness to wear protective equipment and handle exposure to blood and body fluids.
