Mechanical Technician ASU Job in San Francisco | GAS Global
Overview
You will own the operation and maintenance of a cryogenic Air Separation Unit (ASU), ensuring safe, efficient production of oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. You will control flows, purities, and pressures through SCADA/HMI/PLC systems, work with management to meet production targets, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on AC compressors, pumps, and other equipment. This contract role, starting August 2026, offers direct experience with a global gases leader and a path to temp-to-hire.
What You'll Do14
- 1Operate and monitor the ASU to maintain safe, efficient production of cryogenic products.
- 2Control flow, purities, and pressures using SCADA/HMI/PLC systems, adjusting production rates to meet customer demands.
- 3Read and interpret technical drawings and manuals to guide maintenance and operations.
- 4Perform quality assurance checks on products to ensure compliance with standards.
- 5Maintain accurate records of plant readings, maintenance activities, and instrument calibrations as required.
- 6Analyze collected data to identify potential issues and determine immediate corrective actions.
- 7Execute complex plant procedures, including DERIME and warm plant start-ups.
- 8Troubleshoot and repair process systems, including PLC, DCS, control valves, and pneumatic/electronic instruments.
- 9Take initiative to improve plant reliability and cost efficiency without direct supervision.
- 10Handle administrative tasks like requisitioning, purchasing, and production accounting.
- 11Ensure 100% compliance with safety policies and cGMP training, following all procedures to prevent injuries.
- 12Support safety incident investigations using root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- 13Maintain regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, DHS, and FDA systems.
- 14Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, electrical systems, compressors, pumps, turbines, valves, and motors.
Requirements12
- 12+ years of technical college or military technical experience.
- 22+ years operating an Air Separation Plant or related industrial experience.
- 3Proven ability to repair AC compressors, sealers, and pumps.
- 4Critical thinking skills to troubleshoot plant equipment independently.
- 5Proficiency with common hand tools and test equipment for mechanical and electrical repairs.
- 6Ability to interpret plant process problems and make informed decisions.
- 7Understanding of water treatment principles (preferred).
- 8Basic understanding of refrigeration systems (preferred).
- 9Basic understanding of air separation technologies (preferred).
- 10High School Diploma or GED.
- 11Pass drug screening and criminal background check.
- 12Available for overtime, off shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
