Overview

Own and install propulsion and structural components for maritime vessels at scale with hands on machining and welding expertise. You will align engines, gearboxes, shafts, and propulsors and fabricate foundations per blueprints. You will operate machine tools and measure tolerances to ensure regulatory and owner standards are met in a fast paced shipyard setting. You will mentor teammates and contribute to our safety culture on site.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build propulsion assemblies and foundations per blueprints and tolerances
  • 2Align main engines, gear boxes, pumps, shafts, and Z-drive systems for sea trials
  • 3Fabricate steel and aluminum foundations using MIG and arc welding
  • 4Operate lathes, mills, grinders, and drills and verify tolerances with calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
  • 5Lay out, cut, form, machine, and stage parts for final assembly
  • 6Maintain cleanliness and safety on site and follow shipyard policies
  • 7Collaborate with team or work independently and communicate clearly in writing and speech
  • 8Support Inside Machinists as needed to machine components to blueprint specs
  • 9Mentor others and adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • 10Contribute to continuous improvement and safety culture on the dock

Requirements10

  • 15+ years as a Machinery Assembler or Journeyman Machinist
  • 2High school diploma or GED
  • 3Familiarity with shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology
  • 4Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications
  • 5Strong math and conversion skills SAE metric fractions decimals
  • 6Experience with basic hand and power tools and with lathe and milling machines
  • 7Experience with heavy machinery and willingness to work overtime
  • 8Lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights up to 60 ft
  • 9Ability to enter confined spaces with a respirator and work in tight angles
  • 10Experience in shipyards or marine construction and laser alignment expertise preferred
