Overview

Electrical engineers lead design for schools, commercial buildings, and facilities in Philadelphia at scale. You will own capital projects from scope through construction, collaborating with design firms, city agencies, and internal teams. You will review proposals, approve design documents, and ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, and local codes. This role combines technical leadership with stakeholder coordination on a mix of existing buildings and new construction.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build bid specifications and IFBs for 3rd party design firms and provide design support through bid and construction phases
  • 2Review and approve proposals from 3rd party design firms and manage contracts and invoices
  • 3Develop scope determination reports for Capital Improvement Projects evaluating fire alarm, electrical power, lighting, generators, and elevators
  • 4Coordinate with Philadelphia L&I and external agencies to ensure permitting and compliance
  • 5Engage with internal departments to ensure constructability of building systems
  • 6Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and documentation for renovation and new construction projects
  • 7Generate and issue RFPs to third-party design firms and evaluate consultant proposals
  • 8Contribute to restoration, repair design, and preservation of historic schools and building systems
  • 9Assist in long-range facilities planning and capital investment strategies
  • 10Respond to inquiries from staff, stakeholders, and community members regarding capital projects

Requirements9

  • 1Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • 2Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania
  • 3Minimum of ten (10) years of professional electrical design experience for schools, commercial buildings, facilities, construction, and assessments
  • 4Knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 72, IBC, City of Philadelphia codes, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1 and related standards
  • 5Experience with building permit processes in the City of Philadelphia
  • 6Experience designing electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, grounding, and low-voltage systems
  • 7Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD for electrical construction documents
  • 8Strong communication and coordination skills with project teams, consultants, and stakeholders
  • 9Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
