Overview

You will own the engineering department for a large facility in Oakland, CA, directing all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. You'll lead a team of technicians, enforce safety protocols, and drive energy conservation programs to cut utility costs. With a pay range of $70-75/hr, this role offers the chance to implement BOMA and LEED standards across the plant.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Direct the installation, repair, and maintenance of all facility equipment, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • 2Schedule emergency repairs by priority and staff skill, ensuring minimal downtime and OSHA compliance.
  • 3Coach technicians on mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical theory to raise team capability.
  • 4Implement a preventive maintenance program that tracks equipment condition and lifespan using CMMS.
  • 5Lead facility safety programs, including fire prevention and disaster response, and enforce OSHA standards.
  • 6Develop a capital equipment replacement plan and coordinate with contractors for major upgrades.
  • 7Champion energy conservation initiatives, targeting a 15% reduction in utility usage within the first year.
  • 8Oversee budget planning, tracking operating expenses and forecasting capital needs.
  • 9Set department goals, evaluate performance, and build a collaborative team culture.
  • 10Maintain proficiency with building automation systems and MS Office to document operations.

Requirements10

  • 15+ years of progressive operations experience in a lead or senior engineering role.
  • 2Valid Stationary Engineer or HVAC license at the highest state/local level, plus universal refrigerant recovery certification.
  • 3OSHA ACM awareness training certification.
  • 4Experience with building automation systems and computerized maintenance management (CMMS).
  • 5Working knowledge of energy conservation techniques and formal training in energy management.
  • 6Strong coaching and employee relations skills, with the ability to train and mentor technicians.
  • 7Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook for reporting and scheduling.
  • 8Preferred: High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat, Indoor Air Quality, or LEED certification.
  • 9Preferred: BOMA accredited coursework.
  • 10Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
