Lab Technician, Food & Beverage R&D
Overview
Own lab support for food and beverage product development at scale, collaborating with senior chemists and technologists. Work across beverage, confectionery, bakery and dairy applications in a GMP environment. This role emphasizes hands-on formulation, sample management, and cross-functional collaboration to move projects from bench to pilot plant. You will contribute to sensory evaluations and documentation that informs product decisions.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build bench-top formulations and ingredient weigh-outs for food and beverage projects
- 2Assist with batching, blending, compounding, and sample preparation to support development timelines
- 3Label, package, and ship samples to internal teams and customers
- 4Maintain accurate documentation of formulations, sample prep, inventory usage, and test results
- 5Clean, sanitize, and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces to GMP standards
- 6Assist with pilot plant trials and production scale-up activities
- 7Participate in sensory panels and product evaluations to guide formulation decisions
- 8Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Commercialization teams to achieve project goals
- 9Ensure compliance with GMP and food safety standards
- 10Support inventory management of raw materials, flavors, finished products, and lab supplies
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Culinary Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred
- 21-3 years in food manufacturing, laboratory operations, product development, culinary, or applications support environments
- 3Knowledge of food and beverage formulations, ingredient functionality, and handling practices
- 4Ability to accurately weigh ingredients, batch products, and follow formulation instructions
- 5Capability to safely handle allergen-containing materials including dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, nuts, sesame, meat, and seafood
- 6Experience in lab techniques related to food science and GMP practices
- 7Proficiency in documenting formulations, sample preparation, and test results
- 8Onsite work in Addison, IL in a GMP environment
- 9Willingness to collaborate with senior-level team members and support day-to-day lab operations
- 10Strong attention to safety, sanitation, and quality standards
