As coverage counsel in a top-tier AmLaw 200 firm's Chicago office, you'll own coverage litigation, policy analysis, and appellate work for Fortune 500 insurers. You'll handle CGL, E&O, excess, and professional liability disputes from inception to resolution. Collaborate with corporate counsel and a nationally Chambers-ranked coverage practice. What You'll Do8

  • 1Analyze insurance policies and draft coverage opinions for CGL, E&O, excess, and professional liability claims.
  • 2Manage discovery, including document productions, interrogatories, and depositions in coverage litigation.
  • 3Draft and argue coverage motions, including motions to dismiss, summary judgment, and judgment on the pleadings.
  • 4Prepare trial strategy and assist in trial proceedings, including witness prep and exhibit development.
  • 5Handle appellate work, writing briefs and preparing oral arguments on coverage issues.
  • 6Advise Fortune 500 insurers on coverage exposure and litigation risk in complex disputes.
  • 7Collaborate with partners to develop case strategy and ensure client objectives are met.
  • 8Investigate underlying claims and assess policy triggers, exclusions, and conditions.

Requirements6

  • 11-5+ years in insurance coverage litigation or counsel work, including policy analysis and coverage opinions.
  • 2Strong legal writing skills, demonstrated through briefs, opinions, and discovery motions.
  • 3Multi-line coverage background, including CGL, E&O, excess, and professional liability.
  • 4Illinois Bar membership or willingness to get admitted.
  • 5Appellate experience or a strong appellate mindset, including brief writing and oral argument.
  • 6Major carrier experience preferred (e.g., AIG, Chubb, Travelers).
