Overview

You will support certified staff in a middle school classroom, reinforcing reading, language arts, math, and computer instruction for students with diverse needs, including those with IEPs. You will work one-on-one and in small groups, manage classroom behaviors, and assist with record-keeping and assessments. This role is key to fostering inclusion and achieving IEP objectives, with opportunities to participate in the IEP process and train other paraprofessionals. You'll also supervise non-instructional areas and accompany students on field trips, all within a supportive school environment.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Reinforce reading, language arts, math, and computer instruction by guiding students individually and in small groups.
  • 2Administer and correct classroom exercises, tests, and assessments to document student learning and performance.
  • 3Implement assigned programs and strategies to reinforce instructional materials according to individual student needs.
  • 4Support classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
  • 5Supervise students during lunch, bus duty, playground, corridor, and study hall to ensure safety and order.
  • 6Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision and engagement.
  • 7Prepare and distribute educational materials, and assist teachers with parent communication to foster involvement.
  • 8Support students with special needs in all aspects of instruction to maximize inclusion and achievement of IEP goals.
  • 9Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team.
  • 10Assist students with physical or mental disabilities in daily activities to enhance their participation in school.

Requirements9

  • 1High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2Successful completion of college coursework or passing of exam as required by No Child Left Behind.
  • 3Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
  • 4Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • 5Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations to assist students.
  • 6Proficiency in Word, Excel, and other software applications.
  • 7Skill in establishing supportive relationships with students with special needs.
  • 8Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • 9Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse groups.
