I&C Technician | Electrical CAD | Periodic Labs
Overview
You will own electrical instrumentation and controls support at Periodic Labs, a startup building an autonomous lab for high-throughput materials discovery. You'll build and manage complex electrical CAD assemblies in AutoCAD, wire low-voltage 24VDC control enclosures, and integrate MFCs, thermocouples, and EtherCAT fieldbuses. Your work directly enables superconducting materials research with cryogenic systems. Unlike traditional lab tech roles, you'll influence lab design and automation strategy from day one.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and manage large AutoCAD Electrical assemblies for custom equipment, enclosures, and instrumentation from engineer concepts and sketches.
- 2Wire and integrate MFCs, pressure transducers, solenoid valves, and thermocouples into control panels with 24VDC systems.
- 3Perform interference checks and fit studies to catch assembly issues before fabrication, using ASME Y14.5 tolerancing.
- 4Produce detailed 2D engineering drawings with GD&T and generate BOMs, cut sheets, and RFQ-ready packages for procurement.
- 5Interpret electrical schematics and redlines, updating AutoCAD models through revision cycles and maintaining version control.
- 6Maintain systems documentation, BOMs, and drawing archives to keep all changes traceable and current.
- 7Select electrical supplies, wire/cable, and enclosure components like relays and terminal blocks per project specs.
- 8Troubleshoot and physically wire digital and analog I/O devices using EtherCAT, RS-232/-485, and Modbus.
- 9Apply Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) safety practices during all maintenance and installation tasks.
- 10Support cryogenic sample handling and magnetometry setups for superconducting materials testing.
Requirements10
- 15+ years hands-on instrumentation and controls experience, including low-voltage 24VDC wiring and enclosure fabrication.
- 2Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical for schematic design, redlining, and building to print.
- 3Experience integrating mass flow controllers, pressure transducers, solenoid valves, and thermocouples.
- 4Knowledge of LOTO safety procedures and electrical measurement tools like DMMs and voltmeters.
- 5Ability to interpret electrical drawings and create detailed 2D engineering drawings with GD&T.
- 6Skill in generating BOMs, cut sheets, and RFQ-ready documentation for fabrication.
- 7Comfort wiring EtherCAT or RS-232/-485 fieldbuses for digital and analog I/O devices.
- 8Strong documentation habits and attention to detail for maintaining system archives.
- 9Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent lab experience.
- 10Familiarity with Beckhoff IPCs and EtherCAT modules is a plus.
