Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing
Overview
Own the design and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for advanced manufacturing projects in Pittsburgh, PA. You will drive deliverables from concept through commissioning, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers. This role combines hands-on technical work with client-facing coordination, offering exposure to full project lifecycles. What You'll Do8
- 1Design control systems including PLC and HMI architectures for manufacturing processes, specifying instruments and control valves.
- 2Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and loop diagrams, ensuring compliance with project and client standards.
- 3Program and configure PLC and HMI platforms, such as Rockwell and Siemens, for automated equipment.
- 4Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) to validate system performance and safety.
- 5Coordinate with vendors and clients to resolve technical issues and ensure timely delivery of control system components.
- 6Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, datasheets, and installation details, for procurement and construction.
- 7Support commissioning and startup activities, troubleshooting and optimizing control loops and system performance.
- 8Collaborate with process and electrical engineers to integrate control systems with wider project designs.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in advanced manufacturing or heavy industry.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; PE license preferred.
- 3Hands-on experience with Rockwell (ControlLogix) and Siemens (S7) PLC platforms, including HMI development.
- 4Proficiency in P&ID development and familiarity with ISA standards for instrumentation.
- 5Working knowledge of DCS systems and SCADA architectures is a plus.
- 6Experience with EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus communication protocols.
- 7Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- 8Willingness to travel up to 25% for site visits and commissioning activities.
Salary Insight
$111 - $160k per year
