HV Commissioning Technician - Offshore Wind | GE Vernova
Overview
You will lead high-voltage commissioning and service activities on the Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm, one of the world's largest offshore wind projects. You own the safe execution of testing, switching, and maintenance on HV, MV & LV systems across wind turbine generators. Working on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation, you live and work on the vessel, guiding technicians to maintain technical standards and safety. This role stands out for its leadership depth and the scale of offshore impact.
What You'll Do5
- 1Lead HV commissioning and service activities across the wind turbine generator, ensuring safe and efficient execution from the first 90 days.
- 2Carry out testing, switching, fault finding, maintenance, and repair on HV, MV & LV equipment, driving reliability and uptime.
- 3Support energisation, system validation, and handover activities across commissioning and service phases to maintain continuity.
- 4Guide technicians in the field, promoting a safety-first culture through permits, isolations, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety rules.
- 5Work across teams to resolve issues and keep work progressing offshore, coordinating daily handovers and operational awareness.
Requirements8
- 1A recognised electrical qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent vocational training.
- 25+ years hands-on experience with HV, MV & LV electrical systems in wind energy or similar industrial environment.
- 3Experience in commissioning, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, switching, or repair of HV systems above 1000V AC / 1500V DC.
- 4Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams.
- 5Experience working under safe systems of work, including permits and risk controls.
- 6Clear communication skills and confidence to support others in the field.
- 7Ability to pass GWO (Global Wind Offshore Certification).
- 8Experience with HV switching on 11 kV / 33 kV systems, electrical authorisation frameworks, protection systems, or offshore commissioning/service teams is essential.
