Housing Assistant - Rent Assistance & Social Services
Overview
You will own the full lifecycle of rent assistance requests at GraceWorks Ministries, a Nashville-based nonprofit. You will review applications, gather documentation, and submit payments while providing backup support to the front desk and other team members. You will work directly with neighbors, landlords, and community partners, ensuring compassionate service. This role blends administrative precision with direct client interaction, offering a chance to make an immediate impact in housing stability.
What You'll Do9
- 1Deliver outstanding customer service with compassion and respect to all community members.
- 2Review initial rent assistance requests, gather supporting documentation, and communicate with neighbors and landlords.
- 3Approve and submit payment requests using Microsoft Word, Excel, and internal database systems.
- 4Document and update neighbor accounts based on every interaction and service provided.
- 5Address neighbor inquiries and complaints promptly, escalating as needed.
- 6Serve as backup for front desk staff, covering intake and scheduling tasks.
- 7Schedule food appointments and connect neighbors with additional community resources.
- 8Maintain strict confidentiality of neighbor information and follow shelter program guidelines.
- 9Participate in fundraising and outreach events to support the organization's mission.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, or a related field preferred.
- 2Proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred for client communication.
- 32+ years of experience in a customer service or administrative role in a nonprofit setting.
- 4Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport across diverse populations.
- 5Proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
- 6Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting.
- 7Ability to learn new database systems quickly and input data efficiently.
- 8Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- 9Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment in challenging situations.
- 10Capacity to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to workflow changes.
