Hospitalist PA or NP, Inpatient Acute Care
Overview
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner owns comprehensive inpatient care for acute patients at Allegheny Health Network, delivering 24/7 coverage across shifts. Work with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and specialists to manage complex cases, stabilize emergencies, and drive discharge planning. This role requires PA-C certification or NP board certification with ACLS credentials, emphasizing autonomy and collaboration. You will practice at the top of your license in a hospitalist setting with direct impact on patient outcomes.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own daily inpatient rounds for acute patients, conducting advanced history and physical assessments to formulate treatment plans.
- 2Order and interpret lab, radiology, and diagnostic studies to establish diagnoses and guide care in the EMR.
- 3Stabilize emergencies including cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock with immediate intervention and coordination.
- 4Document all patient encounters and interventions in the EMR within regulatory standards for coding and billing.
- 5Collaborate with attending physicians and interdisciplinary teams to refine care plans, escalating complex cases as needed.
- 6Educate patients and families on condition, treatment plans, and self-care using culturally sensitive approaches.
- 7Drive discharge planning by coordinating with community health services to ensure seamless transitions.
- 8Maintain compliance with NCCPA recertification and ACLS standards, participating in quality initiatives.
Requirements8
- 1Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing from an accredited program.
- 2Current PA license with PA-C certification or board eligibility; or NP license with national board certification from AANP, ANCC, NCC, or PNCB.
- 31 year inpatient or 4-10 years related experience preferred, with Emergency or Critical Care background a plus.
- 4ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- 5DEA licensure within 60 days of hire.
- 6Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal Background, FBI Fingerprinting).
- 7Prescriptive authority from the practicing state for NP candidates.
- 8Ongoing NCCPA recertification for PA-C within 90 days of hire.
