Overview
The role owns diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a broad range of heavy construction equipment in a shop setting for a Sumner, WA employer. You will work on equipment such as excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, graders, trucks, and pavers, focusing on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues. You will participate in preventive maintenance and document repairs and parts usage to support uptime and reliability. What You'll Do10
- 1Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on equipment including excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, graders, trucks, and backhoes
- 2Perform preventive maintenance activities such as oil, filters, fluids, belts, and hoses to extend equipment life
- 3Read and interpret service manuals and electrical schematics to ensure accurate repairs
- 4Document repairs and parts usage accurately to support traceability and inventory control
- 5Maintain a safe and organized shop environment and communicate repair status to the team and supervisor
- 6Collaborate with service technicians and parts staff to source parts and minimize downtime
- 7Test repaired systems to verify proper operation and performance after service
- 8Follow OEM guidelines and best practices for heavy equipment repair and maintenance
- 9Assist in diagnosing complex failures and identifying root causes for long-term solutions
- 10Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and suggestions for process improvements
Requirements8
- 13–5 years of heavy equipment repair experience
- 2Strong diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems knowledge
- 3OEM dealership experience preferred (CAT, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, CASE, Hitachi, etc.)
- 4High school diploma or technical certificate
- 5Ability to read and interpret service manuals and electrical schematics
- 6Comfort working in a shop environment and handling physical tasks
- 7Valid driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- 8Commitment to safety and compliance with shop policies
Salary Insight
