Hardware Systems Administrator, Linux & Server Infrastructure
Overview
You will own server hardware lifecycle management and Linux system administration for a growing infrastructure footprint. You'll work hands-on with RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, and Rocky Linux in an onsite role in Sunnyvale, CA. You'll collaborate with network and storage teams to ensure high availability and performance. This role focuses on hardware reliability and automation, not just routine maintenance.
What You'll Do8
- 1Install, configure, and upgrade server hardware across multiple data center racks, ensuring proper cabling and power distribution.
- 2Administer Linux systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, Rocky Linux) including user management, package updates, and kernel tuning.
- 3Diagnose and resolve hardware failures (CPU, memory, disk, NIC) using vendor tools and system logs, minimizing downtime.
- 4Automate repetitive tasks with Bash and Python scripts for provisioning, monitoring, and health checks.
- 5Manage storage configurations including RAID, SAN/NAS, and backup systems to ensure data integrity and recovery.
- 6Deploy and maintain virtualization platforms such as VMware, KVM, and Hyper-V for resource optimization.
- 7Collaborate with network engineers to configure and troubleshoot TCP/IP and DNS issues affecting server connectivity.
- 8Document hardware inventory and standard operating procedures for routine maintenance and onboarding.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, or Rocky Linux.
- 2Proven experience in server hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting (Dell, HPE, or Supermicro).
- 3Strong scripting skills in Bash or Python for automation and system health checks.
- 4Solid understanding of RAID levels and storage technologies including SAN and NAS.
- 5Experience with backup and recovery tools (e.g., Veeam, Bacula).
- 6Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms: VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V.
- 7Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, and basic routing/switching.
- 8Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for hardware installation and work in data center environments.
