Ground Instructor, FAA Flight Training
Overview
Ground Instructor owns ground training for assigned aviation courses at Spartan College, delivering FAA-approved curriculum to 20-40 students per term. You will report to the Chief Instructor and coordinate with a team of 5 flight instructors to ensure each student meets FAR 141 standards. This role stands apart by combining classroom teaching with curriculum development and student retention initiatives at an accredited college.
What You'll Do9
- 1Teach assigned ground classes following the FAA approved Training Course Outline, covering all required topics.
- 2Track student progress through each course, flagging delays or issues to supervisors within 24 hours.
- 3Maintain accurate training records in ETA and Campus Vue, ensuring compliance with FAR 141.
- 4Deliver lectures, assign projects, grade submissions, and answer student questions to meet course objectives.
- 5Administer written and practical exams, then record grades and attendance in the college system.
- 6Recommend curriculum improvements and draft new course materials as assigned.
- 7Maintain classroom equipment and training aids, reporting any malfunctions to facilities.
- 8Attend standardization and instructor development meetings to align with college policies.
- 9Support student retention initiatives by identifying at-risk students and providing extra help.
Requirements8
- 1High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 21-3 years teaching ground instruction at a flight school or college.
- 3Valid Flight Instructor Certificate, Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate, or Instrument Ground Instructor Certificate.
- 4Knowledge of FAR 141 regulations and FAA training course standards.
- 5Demonstrated skill in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook for record-keeping.
- 6Experience with applicant tracking systems like Newton or a HRIS system.
- 7Strong organizational skills to track multiple students and reports.
- 8Clear verbal and written communication for classroom instruction.
