Overview

Generator and control systems test role focused on electrical testing, verification, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment. You will collaborate with Systems Engineering, Wiring, Assembly, and Quality teams to ensure safety, performance, and conformance of generator systems. This role emphasizes hands-on testing, data recording, and adherence to UL 2200 guidelines. You will contribute to high‑quality equipment that meets design specifications and industry standards.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build all electrical and mechanical connections for load bank and house power testing including load cables, fuel lines, natural gas lines, house power terminations, and fluid piping.
  • 2Verify prerequisites before load testing such as oil level, coolant level, phase rotation, and overall unit evaluation.
  • 3Record and document electrical insulation testing in accordance with UL 2200 guidelines.
  • 4Complete generator load testing within designated time frame while meeting quality and safety requirements.
  • 5Thoroughly test and approve house power circuitry and components including distribution panels, lighting, heaters, disconnects, and related systems.
  • 6Record, validate, document, and file all data gathered and software used during production load tests including settings, Vodia programming, test data, and meter readings.
  • 7Perform functional testing to ensure unit operation including run-up synchronization, sync to bus, heater switching, natural gas operation, motorized louver operation, generator breaker and group breaker operation and sequence, PLC functions, and alarm testing.
  • 8Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with switchgear, engines, and other system components addressing assembly errors and component failures.
  • 9Read, interpret, and follow electrical schematics and single-line diagrams to ensure compliance with design and customer specifications.
  • 10Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to safety protocols including OSHA and lockout/tagout procedures.

Requirements11

  • 1High school diploma or GED
  • 2Completion of a vocational program or apprenticeship in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is a strong asset
  • 3At least 2 years of hands-on experience in generator service and controls or relevant wiring experience
  • 4Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • 5Ability to perform generator load bank testing and house power testing including making electrical and mechanical connections
  • 6Experience recording and documenting electrical insulation testing in alignment with standards such as UL 2200
  • 7Skilled in using hand tools and power tools relevant to electrical trade including wire strippers, crimpers, and multimeters
  • 8Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for generators, switchgear, and related electrical systems
  • 9Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • 10Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team
  • 11Understanding and application of safe working practices including OSHA guidelines and lockout/tagout procedures
