Generator Technician - Commercial Power Systems
Overview
You will own maintenance and repair of commercial standby generators across Southern California, serving clients with 8+ years of hands-on experience. You'll work from home, route your service calls, and support the Los Angeles division of a 20-year statewide provider. Your work keeps hospitals, data centers, and critical facilities running. This role offers travel, overtime, and a chance to mentor less experienced techs.
What You'll Do8
- 1Diagnose and repair natural gas and gasoline standby generators, focusing on CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, and Detroit Diesel systems.
- 2Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter and battery replacements, belt and spark plug servicing, and component inspections.
- 3Troubleshoot AC and DC voltage systems and service Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) with confidence.
- 4Conduct load bank testing to verify generator performance under peak load.
- 5Educate end users on generator operation and basic maintenance, building lasting client trust.
- 6Read and apply technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams for accurate diagnosis.
- 7Operate a company vehicle, complete fleet reports, and maintain precise records of all service work.
- 8Partner with management and clients to align on service needs and recommend proactive repairs.
Requirements8
- 18+ years performing commercial generator maintenance and repair.
- 2Basic understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety practices.
- 3Pass pre-employment drug test and motor vehicle background check.
- 4Proficient English communication for reports and client interactions.
- 5Personal hand tools for mechanical work and voltage testing.
- 6Willingness to commute to sites in Orange County, LA County, and the Inland Empire.
- 7Work independently and collaborate within a team.
- 8Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel systems.
