Overview
Football Assistant Coach will own sideline strategy and player development for Montgomery Blair High School's varsity and JV teams. You'll join a coaching staff of 10+ under the athletic director, running position drills, film study, and game-day adjustments. What You'll Do9
- 1Run position-specific drills during practice, focusing on tackling, blocking, and route running fundamentals.
- 2Break down game film with Hudl and build opponent scouting reports for weekly matchups.
- 3Coordinate team conditioning with the strength coach, using Wodify to track player progress.
- 4Lead the freshman team's defensive alignment during games, calling plays from the booth.
- 5Drive team culture through weekly one-on-one meetings with players on academic and athletic goals.
- 6Design special teams packages for kickoff return and punt coverage units.
- 7Manage equipment inventory and practice gear, coordinating with the athletic director for replacements.
- 8Support the head coach in building practice schedules and season plans.
- 9Mentor student-athletes on college recruitment, connecting them with NCAA eligibility resources.
Requirements8
- 1MCPS teacher or professional certified educator, or meet emergency coach criteria.
- 2High school graduate or equivalent for Level II; certified teacher for Level I emergency coach.
- 3At least 21 years of age for Level II emergency coach.
- 4Completed or enrolled in the MCPS course 'Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Coaching Fundamentals and CPR/AED'.
- 51+ season of coaching or playing experience at high school level.
- 6Valid CPR/AED certification.
- 7Clearance through MCPS background check and on-line application.
- 8Availability for afternoon practices and Friday night games, plus occasional weekend film sessions.
