Executive Director Greater Steps Scholars Scholarship Fund
Overview
The Executive Director leads the Greater Steps Scholars Scholarship Fund providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for expanding educational access and economic mobility in Charlotte. This role serves as the program’s lead development officer and chief ambassador cultivating relationships with donors corporate partners educational institutions alumni volunteers and community leaders while ensuring stewardship of scholarship resources.

- 1Develop and execute a strategic plan that advances the Greater Steps Scholar’s mission and vision
- 2Identify opportunities for program growth and innovation
- 3Monitor trends in higher education workforce development and scholarship administration
- 4Develop and execute an annual fundraising strategy
- 5Cultivate solicit and steward major donors
- 6Secure corporate sponsorships and foundation grants
- 7Lead fundraising events and donor engagement initiatives
- 8Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals established by the Board
- 9Maintain timely and accurate client and prospect records in RM software
- 10Develop write and disseminate donor correspondence
- 11Oversee the design production and distribution of marketing materials
- 12Advisory Board and Selection Committee Relations
- 13Partner closely with the Greater Steps Scholars Advisory Board
- 14Prepare board agendas reports and strategic recommendations
- 15Support Greater Steps Scholars Selection Committee
- 16Recruit and engage volunteers
- 17Maintain strong governance practices
- 18Scholarship Program Leadership
- 19Ensure an equitable transparent scholarship selection process
- 20Oversee scholar recruitment and engagement in partnership with Inlivian
- 21Strengthen alumni engagement
- 22Ensure compliance with all scholarship policies and donor intent
- 23Community & External Relations
- 24Serve as the public face of Greater Steps Scholars
- 25Represent Greater Steps and Foundation for the Carolinas at community events
- 26Build partnerships with schools colleges nonprofits corporations and civic organizations
- 27Promote Greater Steps Scholars impact through speaking engagements and media opportunities
- 28Financial & Operational Management
- 29Develop and manage the annual operating budget
- 30Ensure sound fiscal stewardship

- 32Track fundraising scholarship outcomes scholars’ success and donor engagement
- 33Produce annual impact report
- 34Present organizational performance to the Advisory Board and stakeholders
Requirements13
- 1Required Bachelor’s degree preferred Master’s degree
- 2Minimum 7–10 years of progressive nonprofit leadership experience
- 3Demonstrated success raising significant philanthropic revenue
- 4Knowledge of charitable giving and donor stewardship
- 5Experience managing fundraising events
- 6Ability to work effectively with advisory boards
- 7Strong public speaking and communication skills
- 8Ability to work with confidential and sensitive data
- 9Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within group settings
- 10Proven ability to lead teams and manage organizational change
- 11Excellent computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- 12Preferred Experience in scholarship administration higher education or community foundations
- 13Familiarity with scholarship management systems and CRM platforms
