Estimator, Commercial Construction Chicago & Public Sector Bids
Overview
Own the accurate cost estimation and bid proposals for commercial construction in the Chicago market. You will review drawings, specs, and contracts to perform quantity takeoffs and analyze subcontractor quotations for timely submissions. Collaborate with project managers, operations, and field personnel to ensure scope alignment across the bid process from review to submission. This role offers hands on experience with underground tunnel projects at O'Hare and a path toward long term career growth in a family oriented environment.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for commercial construction projects
- 2Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents for accurate quantity takeoffs
- 3Solicit analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations
- 4Support senior estimators during the bid process from project review through submission
- 5Attend pre bid meetings site walks and client meetings as required
- 6Track bid schedules deadlines and estimating documentation
- 7Collaborate with project managers operations teams and field personnel to ensure scope alignment
- 8Identify potential scope gaps cost risks and value engineering opportunities
- 9Maintain current knowledge of local market pricing labor rates and construction trends
Requirements10
- 13-5 years of experience in estimating project engineering project coordination or commercial construction
- 2Experience estimating public sector construction projects preferred including work with City of Chicago CPS CDB and CDA
- 3Proficiency in construction project management estimation scheduling and subcontractor management
- 4Strong understanding of construction means and methods project sequencing and subcontractor scope evaluation
- 5Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software platforms
- 6Strong analytical organizational and problem solving skills
- 7Bachelor's degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering Architecture or related field preferred
- 8Federal project estimating experience is a plus
- 9Experience preparing estimates across multiple construction trades and scopes
- 10On site 5 days per week at O'Hare for initial project kick off can be a factor in scheduling
