Electro-Mechanical Technician, Food Manufacturing
Overview
You will own maintenance and reliability for automated food packaging lines in a 400,000-square-foot Chicago plant. You will diagnose, repair, and improve Allen-Bradley PLC systems, servo drives, 480V electrical, and pneumatic controls to cut downtime. Join a cross-functional team of 12 technicians and engineers. Work with RSLinx, Motor Control Centers, and OSHA compliance standards. This role offers direct impact on plant uptime and a clear path to senior maintenance roles.
What You'll Do9
- 1Diagnose and repair Allen-Bradley PLC faults in high-speed packaging lines to restore production within the first 90 days.
- 2Troubleshoot servo drives and motors using RSLinx to pinpoint root causes and implement fixes.
- 3Rebuild pneumatic control systems, including cylinders, valves, and air preparation units, to reduce cycle failures.
- 4Install and calibrate 480V three-phase electrical systems, ensuring proper motor starters and control circuits.
- 5Lead preventive maintenance sweeps on conveyor systems and packaging machines, inspecting bearings, belts, sensors, and safety interlocks.
- 6Coordinate shift repairs with production and engineering, documenting work orders in CMMS to track recurring issues.
- 7Coach operators on machine adjustments and basic fault clearing to minimize call-outs.
- 8Enforce OSHA, FDA, and EPA compliance by keeping work areas clean and following lockout/tagout procedures.
- 9Drive continuous improvement by proposing and testing modifications to PLC logic and mechanical components.
Requirements9
- 12+ years maintaining automated equipment in food or packaging manufacturing.
- 21+ year hands-on troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLC, RSLinx, and servo drives.
- 3Proficiency with 480V three-phase electrical, including motor starters and control circuits.
- 4Experience repairing pneumatic systems, from valves to actuators, and reading P&ID diagrams.
- 5Associate degree or technical certification in electromechanical technology or related field.
- 6Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk extensive plant floors, and work in a production environment.
- 7Working knowledge of OSHA and food safety regulations.
- 8Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and CMMS for documentation.
- 9Preferred: 1+ year with high-speed automation and packaging systems.
