Electrical Controls Design Engineer, PLC & AutoCAD
Overview
You will own the full lifecycle of industrial control systems from concept through startup at Actalent in Dallas/Fort Worth. Working alongside sales teams and customers, you will translate project requirements into detailed design documentation, program PLCs, and support commissioning at client sites. As part of a global engineering services leader, you will join a collaborative team delivering Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests for control panels and power systems. This role stands out for its blend of design, programming, and onsite commissioning work, offering direct impact on system performance from day one.
What You'll Do10
- 1Collaborate with sales teams and customers to define control system solutions and prepare technical proposals.
- 2Design control system hardware, control panels, and electrical power systems using AutoCAD Electrical.
- 3Develop bills of materials (BOMs), select hardware components, and obtain fabrication quotes for control panels.
- 4Create Functional Design Specifications (FDS) outlining system functionality and operational requirements.
- 5Program PLCs and develop HMI applications using RSLogix 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
- 6Test hardware and software functionality before shipment, then execute FAT and SAT procedures.
- 7Support system checkout, commissioning, and startup activities at customer sites, resolving issues as they arise.
- 8Develop project schedules and manage design, software, and hardware milestones to ensure on-time delivery.
- 9Ensure all designs comply with electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- 10Document project progress and communicate results using Microsoft Office tools.
Requirements10
- 13+ years designing industrial control systems from concept to commissioning and startup.
- 2Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for schematics, panel layouts, and system design.
- 3Hands-on experience in hardware selection, panel design, and BOM development for control systems.
- 4Proven ability to develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
- 52+ years programming PLCs with RSLogix 5000 (Allen-Bradley preferred).
- 62+ years developing HMI applications using FactoryTalk View.
- 7Solid knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, UL).
- 8Willingness to travel to customer sites for startup and commissioning support.
- 9Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and meetings.
- 10Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reports and project communication.
