Director of Music, Catholic Parish Ministry
Overview
Own the music ministry at St. Jude of the Lake Catholic Church, leading worship for 1,200+ parishioners across weekend Masses, Holy Days, funerals, and weddings. You will direct choirs, coordinate cantors, and manage the liturgical music library. Collaborate with the Pastor and Director of Formation to shape a prayerful, cohesive music program. What You'll Do8
- 1Plan music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, funerals, and weddings, selecting liturgical pieces that support congregational participation.
- 2Lead choir rehearsals and performances, developing vocalists and instrumentalists for seasonal and special liturgies.
- 3Coordinate cantors, accompanists, and volunteer musicians, scheduling coverage and arranging qualified substitutes as needed.
- 4Recruit and train parishioners to join the music ministry, fostering a welcoming and collaborative environment.
- 5Oversee the music library, subscriptions, and licensing, ensuring compliance with copyright and liturgical guidelines.
- 6Maintain musical instruments and equipment, coordinating repairs with parish staff or vendors.
- 7Collaborate with clergy and liturgy committee to align music with the liturgical calendar and parish events.
- 8Support special events such as Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, preparing worship aids and directing music.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's degree in Music, Sacred Music, or related field preferred.
- 2Proficiency in piano or organ with ability to accompany and lead worship.
- 3Demonstrated vocal and cantoring ability with confidence leading congregational singing.
- 4Experience directing choirs or ensembles in a parish or similar setting.
- 5Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, the liturgical year, and sacred music tradition.
- 6Strong organizational and communication skills for scheduling and collaboration.
- 7Ability to work independently and with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
- 8Practicing Catholic in good standing; availability for evenings, weekends, and Holy Days.
- 9Physical ability to perform on piano or organ for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
