Design Release Engineer, Exterior Trim
Overview
You will own bumper, grill, fascia, and exterior trim parts through the full product lifecycle at General Motors. You act as the CEO of your parts, driving quality, timeline, and development milestones. You collaborate with internal teams and the supply base to launch future programs. This role blends engineering depth with program management, requiring 10% overnight travel or less. You will make engineering drawings and read blueprints, using MS Office Suite daily.
What You'll Do9
- 1Own the design release process for assigned exterior trim parts from concept through production and warranty.
- 2Drive program milestones by coordinating with cross-functional teams at General Motors and external suppliers.
- 3Research and analyze customer design proposals to determine time and cost feasibility for projects.
- 4Develop and test mechanical components, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
- 5Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to the maintenance crew.
- 6Assist drafters in developing structural designs using CAD tools and software.
- 7Communicate technical updates and risks to stakeholders, aligning on part changes and schedules.
- 8Manage part-level program budgets and timing, proactively addressing issues to avoid launch delays.
- 9Conduct design reviews with suppliers to validate manufacturability and compliance with specifications.
Requirements9
- 15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or design release, preferably in automotive.
- 2Proficiency in MS Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
- 3Strong program management skills, with the ability to drive change across organizations.
- 4Experience with exterior trim components, including bumpers, grilles, and fascias.
- 5Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and common computations.
- 6Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
- 7Team player with detail orientation and problem-solving ability.
- 8Willingness to travel up to 10% overnight.
- 9Experience with CAD software and product lifecycle management tools.
