
Database Administrator, Oracle & SQL Server
Overview
You will own the database environment for the City of Phoenix, supporting Oracle and SQL Server platforms across 100+ critical applications. You will join a team of 5 DBAs reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, working on-site at 100 W Washington St with a hybrid schedule. This role stands out for its long-term contract through 06/30/2028, offering stability and deep exposure to municipal systems.
What You'll Do7
- 1Install, configure, and patch Oracle and SQL Server instances to maintain 99.9% uptime.
- 2Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and SQL Server native tools.
- 3Tune queries and indexes to resolve performance bottlenecks in Oracle and SQL Server.
- 4Automate routine maintenance with Shell scripts and PowerShell.
- 5Migrate legacy databases to cloud-ready architectures on Azure and AWS.
- 6Collaborate with developers to ensure schema changes align with best practices.
- 7Document all configurations and procedures in the team wiki.
Requirements7
- 15+ years administering Oracle and SQL Server in production environments.
- 23+ years experience with RMAN, Data Guard, and Always On availability groups.
- 32+ years scripting with Shell and PowerShell.
- 4Hands-on experience with Azure or AWS database services.
- 54-year degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 6MCSA or OCP certification preferred.
- 7Local to Phoenix or willing to relocate for hybrid work (75% on-site).
