Customs Brokerage Specialist, Customs & Compliance
Overview
You will own customs entry processing and compliance for Kuehne+Nagel, handling high-volume shipment audits and filings with CBP. You will use Cargowise to generate compliant entries, classify goods under HTS, and resolve discrepancies with customs officials. You will work on a tight-knit brokerage team, communicating with clients daily. This role offers direct impact on global supply chains, with training in evolving customs regulations.
What You'll Do9
- 1Classify merchandise using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule to set duty rates for each shipment.
- 2Input shipment data into Cargowise and review for completeness, filing entries with CBP.
- 3Prepare invoices, packing slips, and certificates of origin to support customs clearance.
- 4Monitor entry status, follow up with CBP on delays or discrepancies, and resolve them.
- 5Communicate with clients on shipment status, document needs, and regulatory explanations.
- 6Audit import documentation to verify compliance with U.S. Customs laws and regulations.
- 7Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate import logistics and meet client deadlines.
- 8Track entry processing times and generate KPI reports on clearance efficiency.
- 9Identify and escalate compliance risks to management, participating in training programs.
Requirements8
- 12+ years in customs clearance or brokerage operations.
- 2Working knowledge of Cargowise for customs entry processing.
- 3High school diploma or GED required; additional customs training preferred.
- 4Knowledge of HTS classification, INCO terms, and CBP regulations.
- 5Familiarity with domestic and international geography, including ports and cities.
- 6Experience with customer service and client communication in logistics.
- 7Basic understanding of U.S. regulatory laws and other government agency requirements.
- 8Ability to analyze import documents for compliance and accuracy.
