Counsel, Litigation - Commercial Finance North America
Overview
Juris Doctor or Canadian JD required and 5+ years of experience in commercial litigation, workouts, bankruptcy, creditor rights, and restructurings. You will own litigation support across US and Canada at scale, partnering with Operations, Asset Management, Compliance, HR, IT and outside counsel. You’ll drive process improvements, legal holds, e-discovery, and knowledge management while coordinating with paralegals and cross functional teams. This role offers a chance to shape litigation strategy and build templates, playbooks, and standardized documentation for a high impact North American operation.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build litigation intake protocols, escalation procedures, and reporting processes to support US and Canadian matters
- 2Design and implement outside counsel guidelines, budgets, staffing models and performance reviews
- 3Lead investigations, discovery management, settlement evaluations, mediation and resolution support
- 4Drive creditor rights initiatives, workouts, restructurings, and forbearance actions for distressed assets
- 5Own legal hold programs, information governance, and e-discovery processes across North America
- 6Scale litigation playbooks, SOPs, template libraries, and knowledge repositories
- 7Coordinate with paralegals on matter administration, subpoenas, and records management
- 8Provide regulatory and compliance support including internal investigations and responses
- 9Develop training materials and guidance documents on litigation avoidance and disputes escalation
- 10Support legal technology initiatives, matter management systems, and continuous improvement efforts
Requirements10
- 1Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Canadian LL.B./J.D.
- 25+ years of experience in commercial litigation, workouts, bankruptcy, creditor rights, restructuring, equipment finance, or related fields
- 3Licensing in good standing to practice law in a U.S. state and/or Canadian province, or eligible for in-house authorization
- 4Experience supporting multi-jurisdictional U.S. and Canadian operations preferred
- 5Strong drafting, negotiation, legal research, and analytical skills
- 6Experience with e-discovery, information governance, and records management
- 7Experience working with outside counsel and cross-functional business teams
- 8Proficient with legal technology platforms, matter management, and AI-enabled tools
- 9Ability to travel within US and Canada as needed
- 10Strong communication and project management skills
Salary Insight
$150 - $180k per year
