Overview

Own the month-end close and financial reporting for a large multi-state wholesale distribution organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and FASB standards. Lead a team of accountants through process improvements and technical accounting challenges. Partner with Sales, Purchasing, and Marketing to deliver actionable insights. This 3-month hybrid contract offers a leadership role where you will drive change and mentor staff.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Lead accounting teams in process improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies, focusing on automation of workflows and strengthening controls.
  • 2Oversee daily accounting operations including general accounting, accounts payable, and warranty accounting, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • 3Support the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, including the development of performance review packages and forecasting activities.
  • 4Manage month-end and year-end close processes, coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet deadlines.
  • 5Research and resolve technical accounting issues in accordance with US GAAP and FASB standards, including ASC 606, ASC 330, and ASC 842.
  • 6Validate financial data integrity and ensure accuracy of accounting work products, performing variance analysis and reconciliations.
  • 7Partner with Sales, Purchasing, Marketing, and Human Resources to support business objectives and deliver actionable insights from financial and operational data.
  • 8Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff through performance management and training, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • 9Identify and implement process improvements, including automation using Excel and ERP systems, to enhance efficiency and controls.
  • 10Complete ad hoc projects and financial analyses, providing leadership with decision-ready information.

Requirements8

  • 1Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 25+ years of corporate accounting experience with a strong focus on US GAAP and FASB standards.
  • 3Hands-on experience with ASC 606, ASC 330, and ASC 842.
  • 4Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams and driving process improvements.
  • 5Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting, ideally in wholesale distribution or retail.
  • 6Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools preferred.
  • 7Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering accurate financial statements under tight deadlines.
  • 8Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment, working on-site Monday through Thursday with remote Fridays.
