
Controller (CPA) Live Events & Entertainment
Overview
You will lead event-level financial oversight and accounting operations for a nine-figure live entertainment startup producing concerts, comedy shows, and sporting events. Reporting directly to executive leadership, you will bring accounting fully in-house, manage budgeting and forecasting for each production, and drive profitability analysis across the portfolio. This remote role offers direct visibility into event financials and the chance to build the finance function from the ground up. Travel to live events 5–10 times per year keeps you close to the action.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead cost forecasting and budgeting for live events, covering venue rental, staging, lighting, and production.
- 2Perform project-based accounting and financial modeling to determine event profitability.
- 3Reconcile event budgets on-site to prevent cost overruns and ensure accurate financials.
- 4Transition Accounts Payable from outsourced to in-house operations, owning the full cycle.
- 5Oversee internal Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring timely collections and reporting.
- 6Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial planning and growth initiatives.
- 7Build out the internal accounting infrastructure, including systems and controls.
- 8Travel to live events approximately 5–10 times annually to oversee financial operations.
Requirements7
- 1CPA required.
- 27–10 years of accounting experience, ideally within live events, concerts, production studios, television production, or sports production.
- 3Strong cost forecasting and budgeting experience in production-based environments.
- 4Experience with project accounting and event-level reconciliation.
- 5Comfortable in a demanding, early-stage startup environment.
- 6Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset.
- 7Willingness to work extended hours and occasional weekends as events require.
Salary Insight
$125 - $150k per year
