Controller, Construction Industry & Viewpoint Spectrum
Overview
The Controller will own accounting operations for payroll, payables, receivables, job costing, and general ledger activities at a construction-focused organization in Seattle. They will ensure accurate financial management, timely reporting, and compliance across multiple external partners including banking, bonding, and audits. The role collaborates with leadership to support strategic planning and forecasting and mentors the accounting team to build capability and accountability. What You'll Do10
- 1Lead the full accounting function ensuring accurate and timely month-end close and financial reporting
- 2Oversee payroll administration for field and office staff with related tax, union, and retirement reporting
- 3Direct accounts payable, subcontractor disbursements, and accounts receivable to support cash flow and vendor relationships
- 4Monitor daily cash positions and prepare internal statements along with external reports for banking, bonding, insurance, and audits
- 5Manage job costing reviews and financial reporting tied to project performance and operational results
- 6Coordinate annual audits and compile schedules to support external requests
- 7Develop budgets and provide documentation to support planning and forecasting
- 8Advise leadership on insurance, tax, overhead rates, and workers’ compensation financial matters
- 9Supervise and mentor accounting team across payroll, payables, receivables, and project reporting
- 10Build relationships with banks, bonding partners, insurers, and other stakeholders and contribute financial insights to leadership discussions
Requirements9
- 1CPA designation required
- 2Construction experience preferred
- 3Proven experience leading accounting operations in a Controller or senior finance role
- 4Strong knowledge of month-end close, journal entries, financial statement preparation, and general ledger management
- 5Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, and cash management processes
- 6Familiarity with job costing and project-based financial reporting in a complex environment
- 7Proficiency with Viewpoint Spectrum and data analysis for meaningful financial insights
- 8Working knowledge of regulatory reporting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and insurance-related financial administration
- 9Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
