Overview

Composite Development Technician will own advanced composite development for the Neutron launch vehicle structure at Rocket Lab in Middle River MD. This role collaborates with manufacturing engineering to create processes for complex laminates, bonded joints, and large assemblies. You will perform precise layups, measurements, and integration of mechanical hardware to high tolerances. This position offers opportunities across technician levels I through senior based on experience and impact.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and refine composite manufacturing processes for complex laminates and bonded joints, enabling reliable assembly of large structures
  • 2Design and execute layup development for highly complex laminates ensuring accurate ply placement
  • 3Apply advanced measurement techniques to verify references and adherence to drawing datum in rework or repair documentation
  • 4Integrate mechanical hardware with precision, including re-installation, fastener up-sizing, and precision drilling across carbon fiber and multi-material stacks
  • 5Perform standard composite and integration techniques for aerospace and space industries and participate in local product work as needed
  • 6Collaborate with engineering to streamline assembly workflows and improve cycle times
  • 7Support testing and validation activities for composite components to meet performance requirements
  • 8Participate in modifications and upgrades to ensure continuous improvement of launch vehicle components
  • 9Contribute to safety and process documentation to maintain compliance and traceability
  • 10Adapt to varied shifts and environments including production floors and field locations as needed

Requirements10

  • 1High School Diploma or GED
  • 22+ years of experience in composite component R&D or military equipment repair and maintenance for Tech II
  • 35+ years of experience in composite component R&D or military equipment repair and maintenance for Tech III or Senior
  • 4Experience using various hand and power tools
  • 5Ability to stand and walk for 8+ hours and lift up to 25 lbs
  • 6Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and varied shifts as needed
  • 7Experience with Core bond and Splicing is a plus
  • 8Advanced prepreg manufacturing knowledge and resin infusion knowledge are preferred
  • 9Demonstrated experience in aerospace or space composite environments
  • 10Security and ITAR considerations for U.S. operations may apply
