Overview

Set up and operate CNC lathes and mills in a Chicago-area manufacturing plant. This 6-month contract-to-hire role focuses on producing precision components using Okuma and Mori equipment. You will work alongside senior machinists to learn advanced programming and multi-axis machining. The role emphasizes a strong work ethic and a willingness to cross-train across departments.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Set up CNC lathes and mills for production runs, ensuring proper tooling and workholding per blueprints.
  • 2Operate Okuma and Mori machines to produce parts within tolerance, using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • 3Inspect finished parts against mechanical drawings and quality standards, documenting results per ISO procedures.
  • 4Troubleshoot machine errors and perform basic repairs or adjustments to minimize downtime.
  • 5Learn and apply G-code programming for simple to complex parts under senior guidance.
  • 6Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety and quality protocols.
  • 7Communicate production issues to team leads and suggest process improvements.

Requirements8

  • 10-3+ years of machining experience or CNC school training.
  • 2Experience with Okuma or Mori lathe/mill operations is preferred.
  • 3Familiarity with AutoCAD, Solidworks, or Mastercam is a plus.
  • 4Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • 5Proficiency with measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • 6Experience with multi-axis machining or secondary spindle lathes is a plus.
  • 7Knowledge of ISO quality systems and documentation is highly desirable.
  • 8Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn from senior team members.
