CNC Lathe Machinist, 5 Axis Programming & Onsite CNC Lathe Lead
Overview
Own CNC lathe programming and operations at a tight knit shop serving multiple company facets. You will program and operate our CNC Lathe (2 axis and 5 axis) and may expand into CNC Milling EDM and related areas based on experience. Join a hands-on team based near Livermore and help drive accuracy and efficiency across multiple machines. This role blends hands-on machining with programming, setup, and maintaining quality.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and program CNC Lathe operations to produce precision parts on 2 axis and 5 axis machines
- 2Operate and setup Okuma Mori Haas lathes with minimal supervision while ensuring quality and safety
- 3Monitor machine performance and maintain clean, organized work areas to support multiple simultaneous jobs
- 4Calculate feeds and speeds to optimize surface finish and cycle times for varied materials
- 5Read and interpret shop drawings and technical specifications to meet tolerance requirements
- 6Collaborate with teammates to expand responsibilities toward CNC Milling and EDM tasks as skills grow
- 7Identify maintenance needs and report issues to minimize unplanned downtime
- 8Train and mentor junior operators when needed to sustain workflow efficiency
- 9Ensure documentation for production runs is accurate and up-to-date
- 10Maintain compliance with safety standards and best practices across all operations
Requirements10
- 15+ years operating a Okuma Mori Haas CNC Lathe
- 22+ years programming experience (MasterCam preferred)
- 3Ability to setup and operate a CNC Lathe without supervision
- 4Capacity to keep multiple machines running and manage workload
- 5Ability to calculate feeds and speeds and understand G code
- 6Understanding of material types, grades, and machinability
- 7Ability to read and understand shop drawings
- 8Capability to lift 25+lbs and perform tasks requiring reach, kneeling, or crawling as needed
- 9Ability to monitor machinery for maintenance and safety issues
- 10Willingness to work onsite in San Jose/Livermore area and participate in a small, hands-on team
