Chief Financial Officer, Nonprofit Homeless Services
Overview
Direct financial strategy and operations for a mission-driven nonprofit serving the Salt Lake City region, owning an annual budget that supports emergency shelter and rental assistance. Report to the Executive Director, lead the Finance & Accounting team through the Director of F&A, and serve as the primary advisor to the Board. Steward GAAP compliance, Form 990, and Uniform Guidance. This role offers the chance to shape long-term sustainability while working closely with community partners.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead financial strategy, including multi-year projections, scenario planning, and risk mitigation, to ensure mission alignment and long-term sustainability.
- 2Oversee budgeting and financial planning, reviewing and approving annual budgets, forecasts, and major revisions.
- 3Drive enterprise-level cash management, treasury, investments, lines of credit, and liquidity strategy with the Executive Director and Board.
- 4Own external financial relationships, managing the annual audit with auditors, banks, and investment managers, and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
- 5Ensure accurate regulatory filings, including IRS Form 990, and compliance with funder requirements and Uniform Guidance.
- 6Assess financial implications of new programs and contracts, presenting recommendations to executive leadership and the Board.
- 7Supervise the Director of F&A, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of integrity and transparency.
- 8Represent the organization in financial matters with external stakeholders and community partners.
Requirements8
- 115+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with 10+ years in leadership or executive management.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
- 3Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and audit processes.
- 4Extensive experience with budgeting, forecasting, grant management, and grant reporting.
- 5Proficiency in Excel and financial reporting software; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
- 6Nonprofit or human services experience preferred, with at least 2 years working with diverse or vulnerable populations.
- 7Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including board members, staff, and government agencies.
- 8Professional stature to advise leadership and the Board on cash flow, budgets, and major contracts.
