Charge Nurse RN, Skilled Nursing & Long-Term Care
Overview
You will own shift-level clinical operations for a skilled nursing unit, directing LPNs and CNAs/STNAs to deliver safe, compliant resident care. You serve as the on-floor clinical authority, coordinating assignments, staffing adjustments, and break schedules while maintaining continuity across shifts. You report directly to the Director of Nursing and act as a bridge between staff and leadership. This role gets hands-on with daily staffing decisions, performance feedback, and emergency response in a fast-moving long-term care environment.
What You'll Do8
- 1Supervise LPNs, CNAs, and STNAs during assigned shifts, directing resident care and workflows.
- 2Create daily work assignments, aligning staff capabilities with resident acuity and safety needs.
- 3Adjust staffing levels in real time, receiving calls, arranging replacements, and reallocating team members across units.
- 4Evaluate staff performance, providing input on hiring, discipline, and termination decisions.
- 5Resolve staff concerns and adjust break schedules to maintain coverage.
- 6Oversee unit operations in the absence of higher-level management, applying independent judgment.
- 7Serve as a clinical resource for residents, families, and staff on care questions and concerns.
- 8Ensure shift compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and facility policy.
Requirements7
- 1Current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- 2Current CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.
- 32+ years of experience in a long-term care setting (preferred).
- 4Proven ability to supervise and direct nursing staff in a clinical environment.
- 5Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for skilled nursing facilities.
- 6Strong communication skills for coordinating with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- 7Ability to make independent decisions under pressure, adjusting to staffing and safety needs.
