What You'll Do7

  • 1Coordinate Cancer Registry activities for the Tampa Cancer Institute, ensuring compliance with CoC, FCDS, and other regulatory standards.
  • 2Lead case finding, abstracting, and patient follow-up processes, meeting FCDS reporting timelines and quality benchmarks.
  • 3Develop and update registry policies, procedures, and workflows to align with CoC accreditation requirements.
  • 4Review abstracts and medical records for coding accuracy, completeness, and data quality using ICD-O and AJCC guidelines.
  • 5Provide technical guidance and training to registry staff on NAACCR, SEER, STORE, and reporting standards.
  • 6Serve as the subject-matter expert for registry data, quality measures, and oncology accreditation on assigned committees.
  • 7Maintain professional credentials through NCRA-approved continuing education and apply evolving standards to registry practice.

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • 25+ years of cancer registry abstracting experience in a CoC-accredited facility.
  • 33+ years of experience as a team lead or supervisor in a registry setting.
  • 4FCDS Abstractor Code required or obtained within one month of hire.
  • 5ODS-C (Oncology Data Specialist Certified) certification.
  • 6Advanced knowledge of CoC, FCDS, NAACCR, AJCC, ICD-O, SEER, and STORE standards.
  • 7Skill in interpreting operative, pathology, radiology, and laboratory documentation for abstracting.
  • 8Proficiency with registry software, FCDS IDEA, electronic medical record systems, and related applications.
  • 9Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and process-improvement skills.
  • 10Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to train and support registry staff.
