Building Maintenance Tech - Hospital Facility
Overview
The Building Maintenance Technician owns general maintenance and repair across the hospital campus, tackling urgent and routine fixes for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. Working under the Director of Facilities, you will keep critical infrastructure running and document every action in compliance with hospital codes. This role requires a hands-on professional who can work independently and handle emergencies. What You'll Do11
- 1Respond to urgent and routine repair requests for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, ensuring hospital operations stay online.
- 2Perform preventive maintenance on all physical structures and associated equipment, following hospital building codes.
- 3Diagnose and fix issues with HVAC, boilers, steam systems, and central plant operations, maintaining safety standards.
- 4Document all inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance work in logs, ensuring accurate records for compliance.
- 5Conduct daily rounds of the facility, reporting any problems to the Director of Facilities promptly.
- 6Replace light bulbs, move furniture and supplies, and complete manual tasks as needed.
- 7Coordinate with team members during shift changes, sharing timely updates to maintain continuity.
- 8Follow HIPAA and infection control protocols when entering patient care areas.
- 9Respond to emergency clinical situations, applying knowledge of Fire Life Safety systems and emergency procedures.
- 10Carry out written, oral, and diagram-based instructions to complete assigned goals.
- 11Work day, evening, night, and weekend shifts as scheduled, with minimal supervision.
Requirements10
- 11+ year experience in mechanical equipment repair and troubleshooting building systems.
- 2High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 3Trade school training or on-the-job experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler, or central plant operations.
- 42+ years experience in a hospital setting is highly preferred.
- 5Knowledge of maintenance methods, tools, and safety practices.
- 6Ability to read and interpret written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions.
- 7Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- 8Basic knowledge of Fire Life Safety systems and emergency response.
- 9Able to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks.
- 10Valid authorization to work in the United States.
