Blast Furnace Equipment Sales Engineer, Midwest Territory
Overview
You will manage and grow sales of critical blast furnace and hot end equipment for a premier industrial manufacturer with a 200-year legacy. As the primary technical advisor for steel mills across Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois, you will build long-term relationships with plant managers and engineers. You will own the full sales lifecycle from site visits to coordinating with internal engineering and fabrication teams. This role is ideal for a veteran sales professional seeking a stable, long-term position with a company that offers a pension and a rare tenure-track career path.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build deep trust with plant managers, maintenance departments, and engineers as the primary technical point of contact for steel mills in the Midwest territory.
- 2Conduct site visits to hot end environments to identify equipment wear, campaign life extensions, and safety improvement opportunities.
- 3Manage the full sales lifecycle, from identifying customer requirements to coordinating with internal fabrication and engineering teams on custom solutions.
- 4Monitor market trends in the steel and power generation sectors to anticipate large-scale capital equipment replacement cycles.
- 5Provide technical consultation on blast furnace equipment, including stoves, tuyeres, and cashouse systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- 6Collaborate with internal teams to design and quote equipment modifications that extend campaign life and improve operational efficiency.
- 7Document all customer interactions and opportunities in the CRM system, tracking progress and forecasting sales.
- 8Travel across the territory to support existing accounts and develop new business within the assigned region.
- 9Maintain a deep understanding of the company's product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities to recommend the best solutions.
Requirements9
- 15+ years of industrial B2B sales experience, preferably in steel, metals, or power generation.
- 2Significant experience in blast furnace operations or hot end steel mill environments, with a strong understanding of molten metal processes.
- 3Mechanical aptitude with the ability to 'speak the language' of a machine shop and heavy industrial plant; an engineering degree is not required.
- 4Demonstrated success in relationship-based selling, prioritizing long-term trust over short-term transactions.
- 5Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a technical or industrial setting.
- 6Located within the Great Lakes industrial corridor (Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, or Illinois).
- 7Willingness to travel regionally up to 50% for client site visits and meetings.
- 8Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders.
- 9Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
