Benefits Specialist Health & Welfare
Overview
You will own routine benefits operations for group insurance policies, verifying premium calculations and processing vendor invoices. You will answer employee questions on benefits, coordinate escalations, and manage COBRA and FSA tasks. This role sits on a dedicated benefits team in a hybrid setup (2 days onsite) and requires 1-2 years of benefits administration experience. You will directly handle Qualified Medical Child Support Orders and retiree benefits, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
What You'll Do8
- 1Verify calculations of periodic premium and administrative statements for group insurance policies
- 2Process vendor invoices for payment, including spreadsheet preparation for accounting
- 3Answer routine employee benefits questions and coordinate escalations with subject matter experts
- 4Handle routine department mailings and complete benefit questionnaires and forms
- 5Administer Qualified Medical Child Support Orders and verify employee-submitted documentation
- 6Facilitate premium payments for employees on leave of absence
- 7Coordinate eligibility and enrollments for retiree medical and retiree life benefits
- 8Calculate and communicate COBRA subsidies related to layoff, military leave, and employee deaths
Requirements9
- 11-2 years of experience administering employee benefit programs
- 2High school diploma or GED
- 3Basic knowledge of HR and benefits, strong mathematical and analytical skills, and attention to detail
- 4Customer service skills with effective verbal communication
- 5Ability to identify issues and resolve from established options
- 6Recommend process improvements
- 7Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with payroll, HRIS, and benefits databases
- 8Proven team collaboration skills and the ability to work independently within function
- 9Strong organization and time management to meet deadlines while maintaining confidentiality
