Assistant Store Manager, Grocery & Retail Operations
Overview
You run the store floor and own daily operations, from team coaching to department execution, at a high-volume grocery location. You lead the team through every shift, enforce food safety standards, and push sales metrics while delivering a clean, stocked, friendly store. You partner with the Store Manager to set schedules, manage inventory, and analyze performance data. This role puts you in charge of the full operation in the manager's absence and builds your leadership through hands-on mentoring.
What You'll Do10
- 1Coach and develop the store team on tasks, performance standards, and role expectations from day one.
- 2Open or close the store and run all operations solo when the Store Manager is out.
- 3Build the weekly team schedule with the Store Manager to hit labor targets and coverage needs.
- 4Enforce Food Safety and sanitation daily, including power equipment checks and clean conditions.
- 5Drive sales and customer counts by managing inventory levels, plan-o-grams, and price tags.
- 6Track and act on key metrics like labor productivity, shrink, and CPA scores each week.
- 7Lead the store team through merchandising resets and seasonal displays to match company programs.
- 8Handle cash handling, payroll, and inventory paperwork to meet company and city rules.
- 9Respond to sales trends by adjusting orders to keep perishables fresh and in stock.
- 10Coordinate building maintenance and repairs to keep the store safe and functional.
Requirements10
- 12+ years of management experience, supervising others.
- 2Previous scheduling, merchandising, budgeting, or expense control experience.
- 3At least a High School diploma or equivalent.
- 4Basic skills with electronic technology and communication tools.
- 5Strong oral and written communication, plus interpersonal skills.
- 6Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks at once.
- 7Proficient with planning and analytics, including P&L budget reading.
- 8Solid leadership and time management skills.
- 9Food safety certification or ability to obtain it.
- 10Capable of lifting 20-50 pounds repeatedly and up to 80 pounds at times.
