Asbestos Investigator NYC - Industrial Hygiene Specialist
Overview
BSI seeks a Consulting Specialist – Industrial Hygiene to lead IH exposure assessments and hazardous material surveys across NYC schools and regional clients. This full‑time role supports high‑impact EHS projects in a consulting setting. Ideal candidates possess a scientific background and field experience seeking growth in industrial hygiene.
What You'll Do11
- 1Conduct industrial hygiene exposure assessments including air and noise monitoring and develop sampling strategies aligned with NYC regulations
- 2Perform hazardous building material surveys following local and federal guidelines
- 3Carry out health and safety inspections covering PPE compliance lockout tagout confined space entry and machine guarding
- 4Support hazard communication and chemical safety programs across client sites
- 5Deliver in‑person safety and regulatory training to clients and contractors
- 6Assist in developing and maintaining Environmental Health and Safety management systems
- 7Interpret field data and produce client‑ready technical reports using Microsoft Word
- 8Collaborate with internal project teams and external clients to ensure timely service delivery
- 9Execute site visits throughout the New York City metro area
- 10Participate in after‑hours and weekend work as needed
- 11Work both independently in the field and on‑site
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science Chemistry Biology or related discipline
- 22–5 years experience in environmental health and safety industrial hygiene or related consulting
- 3NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector license or USEPA Lead Inspector license
- 4Strong technical writing and verbal communication abilities
- 5Basic Excel proficiency preferred
- 6Familiarity with AutoCAD preferred
- 7Professional certifications such as CIH CSP ASP or CHMM are a plus
- 8Willingness to travel locally and regionally with a personal vehicle preferred
- 9Preference for candidates experienced under NYC‑specific regulatory frameworks
