Overview

Own academic support for K-12 students at the Boys & Girls Club of Carroll County. You will run Power Hour, a structured program for grades 1-12, working one-on-one and in small groups. You will build consistent relationships with assigned students across the school year. This role sharpens your teaching and mentoring skills while making a direct impact on youth in Westminster, MD.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Deliver individual and small-group homework help for elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • 2Guide students through assignments in math, English language arts, science, and social studies without completing the work for them.
  • 3Run provided academic activities when students have no homework.
  • 4Build student skills in organization, time management, and study habits.
  • 5Track academic progress for assigned students when parent permission and grade data are available.
  • 6Communicate student needs and progress to Club staff.
  • 7Keep a patient, positive learning environment during Power Hour sessions.

Requirements8

  • 1Current undergraduate at McDaniel College.
  • 2Eligible for Federal Work Study as part of a financial aid package.
  • 30+ years explaining academic concepts clearly without giving answers.
  • 4Strong communication, patience, dependability, and problem-solving skills.
  • 5Ability to work with individuals and small groups.
  • 6Willingness to use provided materials and online resources for unfamiliar topics.
  • 7Reliable attendance for consistent weekly shifts, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday.
  • 8Must provide your own transportation to the Boys & Girls Club of Westminster.
