Yard Duty Supervisor, School Recess & Lunch
Overview
Supervise up to 300 students during lunch and recess at a K-8 school site. Report to the principal and coordinate with teachers to maintain a safe, positive playground climate. Yard Duty Supervisors at FCUSD work 2 hours 45 minutes per day, 5 days a week, for 9.5 months. This part-time role offers a direct path to full-time classified positions in a district committed to staff growth. You will own student safety and conflict resolution during peak unstructured time.
What You'll Do7
- 1Oversee student behavior during lunch and noon recess, redirecting conflicts before they escalate.
- 2Enforce school rules consistently and fairly, using positive reinforcement techniques.
- 3Respond to minor injuries and incidents, reporting all accidents to the office per district protocol.
- 4Build rapport with students, teachers, and parents to foster a welcoming, inclusive yard culture.
- 5Monitor playground equipment and facilities for hazards, reporting maintenance issues promptly.
- 6Serve as a role model for respectful communication and problem-solving.
- 7Support students with special needs during recess, adapting activities as needed.
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2Experience supervising children in scouts, church school, recreational groups, or similar settings.
- 3Ability to stand for extended periods, run, walk, stoop, and bend.
- 4Vision to observe students across a large yard.
- 5Hearing and speaking skills to exchange information and give directions.
- 6Pass DOJ and FBI criminal background checks.
- 7Complete TB test within 60 days of hire.
- 8Complete district Mandated Reporter and Sexual Harassment training.
