VMS Support Engineer, Tier 3 Video Surveillance
Overview
You will own Tier 3 support for our enterprise video surveillance environment, serving as the final escalation point for complex incidents and major outages. You will drive root cause analysis, system optimization, and architectural improvements across a distributed VMS infrastructure. You will join a mission-driven team supporting government and commercial clients, backed by 30+ years of expertise in secure operations. This role centers on Genetec Security Center and Surveill, with direct impact on national security. You will work onsite in Kingstowne, VA, collaborating with Tier 2 engineers and leading incident response.
What You'll Do10
- 1Serve as Tier 3 escalation for complex VMS incidents and major outages, leading bridge calls during critical security events.
- 2Conduct deep troubleshooting across application, server, storage, and network layers to isolate and resolve performance issues.
- 3Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and document corrective and preventative actions for recurring problems.
- 4Administer enterprise VMS platforms, including Genetec Security Center and Surveill, optimizing recording policies, profiles, and failover configurations.
- 5Conduct system health audits and capacity planning to ensure high availability and performance.
- 6Troubleshoot Windows Server environments supporting VMS applications, including software upgrades and patching.
- 7Analyze network performance issues such as VLANs, multicast, and bandwidth constraints to improve video streaming reliability.
- 8Support storage troubleshooting and performance tuning for high-throughput video recording.
- 9Test VMS integrations with analytics solutions and develop technical SOPs and user guides.
- 10Mentor Tier 2 engineers and share knowledge on advanced troubleshooting techniques.
Requirements10
- 14-5+ years supporting enterprise VMS or physical security systems.
- 2Advanced troubleshooting skills across IP networking, Windows Server, and storage systems.
- 3Experience conducting formal root cause analysis and documenting findings.
- 4Strong understanding of video codecs H.264, H.265, and system performance tuning.
- 5Experience supporting distributed or high-availability environments.
- 6Onsite availability in Kingstowne, VA.
- 7Preferred: manufacturer certifications such as Genetec, Milestone, or Avigilon.
- 8Preferred: experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments.
- 9Preferred: PowerShell or scripting experience.
- 10Preferred: participation in on-call engineering rotations.
