The veterinary technician will support health, comfort, and humane care for laboratory animals in a vivarium setting. They will assist with clinical and surgical procedures under supervision and ensure compliance with study protocols and regulatory guidelines. What You'll Do10

  • 1Build daily humane care for laboratory animals using approved procedures
  • 2Observe animals for clinical signs and report findings to supervisory staff
  • 3Assist in preparing animals for invasive and interventional procedures and monitor peri-operative status
  • 4Maintain regulatory records including drug logs and study documentation
  • 5Induce and monitor anesthesia and manage physiologic status during studies
  • 6Perform specimen collection and diagnostic tests and prepare samples for external labs
  • 7Maintain equipment sterility and cleanliness according to aseptic principles
  • 8Coordinate inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment with team
  • 9Provide peri-operative monitoring and recovery support for procedures
  • 10Participate in sanitization and maintenance of vivarium and animal areas

Requirements6

  • 1Associate of Science AS degree in Veterinary Technology or related field
  • 21–2 years of animal experience, ideally in a veterinary or research setting
  • 3Experience with laboratory animals
  • 4Knowledge of veterinary technology, animal research, and surgical procedures
  • 5Experience in anesthesia induction, maintenance, and monitoring for laboratory animals
  • 6Ability to perform heavy repetitive lifting and moving of animals and equipment up to 100 pounds with assistance
