What You'll Do10

  • 1Prepare exam rooms and surgical suites with sterile instruments and aseptic technique before each procedure.
  • 2Restrain and handle animals safely during exams, blood draws, and treatments to minimize stress.
  • 3Run in-house lab tests (blood work, urinalysis, cytology) and report results to the veterinarian.
  • 4Capture diagnostic X-rays with proper positioning and radiation safety protocols.
  • 5Administer medications, fluids, and vaccines via IV catheters, injections, and oral routes.
  • 6Assist in dental cleanings and extractions, monitoring anesthesia and recovery.
  • 7Document patient records, including vitals, treatment plans, and lab results in the PIMS.
  • 8Monitor hospitalized animals for changes in condition, providing critical care and feeding support.
  • 9Support dog training and behavior modification to ease handling during visits.
  • 10Maintain kennel cleanliness and enforce animal husbandry standards to prevent disease spread.

Requirements9

  • 12+ years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical setting, including surgical assistance.
  • 2Proficiency in venipuncture, catheterization, and administering injections.
  • 3Certification as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or eligibility to obtain within 6 months.
  • 4Hands-on expertise with digital radiography and dental radiographs.
  • 5Strong grasp of veterinary terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology.
  • 6Experience with laboratory equipment (idexx, heska) and cytology prep.
  • 7Comfort handling dogs of all sizes, including large breed and reactive patients.
  • 8Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for extended periods during surgeries.
  • 9Flexibility to work rotating weekends and holidays as part of the on-call rotation.
