Veterinary Technician, Emergency & Critical Care
Overview
As a Veterinary Technician at Verona & Montclair Animal Hospital, you will own the full scope of patient care from intake through recovery in a busy two-hospital practice. You'll support a team of collaborative doctors and skilled technicians, performing diagnostics, anesthesia, and surgical assistance. What You'll Do10
- 1Assist veterinarians in exams, surgeries, and dental procedures, ensuring efficient patient flow and accurate treatment.
- 2Prepare patients for surgery and monitor anesthesia through recovery, adjusting plans as needed.
- 3Administer medications, injections, and fluid therapy, and execute accurate venipuncture.
- 4Run in-house diagnostics including fecal exams, urinalysis, skin scrapings, ear cytology, heartworm testing, and fungal cultures.
- 5Capture high-quality digital radiographs and assist with advanced imaging.
- 6Restrain patients safely during exams and procedures, adapting to each animal's temperament.
- 7Admit and discharge patients, delivering clear home-care instructions and educating clients on preventive care and treatment plans.
- 8Prepare treatment estimates and discuss recommendations with pet owners, ensuring transparent communication.
- 9Maintain surgical instruments, treatment areas, and exam rooms, and manage inventory of medications and supplies.
- 10Document all care accurately in medical records and support teammates across the hospital to maintain exceptional patient care.
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or equivalent.
- 21+ years of veterinary technician experience preferred, with strong technical and nursing skills.
- 3Experience with surgery, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, and radiology preferred.
- 4Excellent communication and client education skills.
- 5Ability to stay calm and organized in a busy clinical environment.
- 6Team-oriented with a compassionate and positive attitude.
- 7Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 40 pounds, and safely restrain animals of varying sizes.
- 8Comfort working in a veterinary environment with exposure to anesthetic gases, lab samples, and animal odors.
