What You'll Do8

  • 1Triage incoming patients and prioritize care based on severity, initiating emergency protocols and stabilizing unstable cases with oxygen support and IV catheters.
  • 2Collect and run lab samples including blood, urine, and fecal tests using in-house diagnostic equipment, and record results accurately.
  • 3Position and capture diagnostic radiographs, adjusting exposure for small animal patients, and assist with ultrasound procedures.
  • 4Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed, monitoring patients for adverse reactions and adjusting care under veterinarian guidance.
  • 5Prepare patients for surgery, assisting with sterile field setup, instrument handling, and surgical site preparation, plus monitor anesthesia depth and vital signs during procedures.
  • 6Provide intensive nursing care for hospitalized patients, managing pain, nutrition, and wound care, and communicate treatment plans clearly to pet owners.
  • 7Restrain animals safely using low-stress techniques, ensuring patient and staff safety while minimizing fear and anxiety.
  • 8Maintain accurate medical records, interpret lab results, and document patient history and response to treatment in the practice management system.

Requirements10

  • 13+ years of veterinary technician experience, with an active certification preferred but not required.
  • 2Proficient in venipuncture for blood collection and handling urine, fecal, and skin samples.
  • 3Skilled in patient triage, emergency assessment, and critical care monitoring.
  • 4Ability to position patients for and obtain high-quality radiographs using digital x-ray equipment.
  • 5Knowledge of anesthetic protocols, monitoring equipment, and surgical assistance for routine and emergency procedures.
  • 6Strong communication skills to interact with clients and team members during high-stress situations.
  • 7Availability to work weekend and weekday nights, with overnight shifts not required.
  • 8High work ethic, punctuality, and a positive team attitude, committed to continuous learning.
  • 9Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and tolerate unpleasant odors and noises.
  • 10Capacity to handle bites, scratches, and potential exposure to zoonotic diseases with adherence to safety protocols.
